Defending champions, Kandy Sports Club kicked-off the 2019/20 Inter-Club League Rugby Tournament in style when they outplayed Sri Lanka Air Force Sports Club by 26 points (four tries and three conversions) to eight points (one try and one penalty) in their opening fixture worked off at the Nittawela Stadium today (01).
At half time Kandy SC led 19-3.
The game was played under difficult wet conditions where the ball handling was extremely difficult.
However, Kandy SC settled well late in the first half through some speedy three quarter moves.
Nigel Ratwatte led his team well with ample support coming his way from his forwards and the three quarters also combined well.
Kandy SC drew first blood in the 14th minute through their number eight Buwanaka Udangamuwa. Thilina Wijesinghe added the extras.
Kandy SC dominated proceedings and scored their second try through Lavanga Perera. Thilina added the extra two points.
Air Force SC scored their first points through a Gayanatha Iddamalgoda penalty.
The third try was a piece of class by Kandy SC winger Diluksha Dange.
After the turnaround, Kandy SC scored their last try through Skipper Nigel Ratwatte.
Air Force SC scored their try through hooker Parakkrama Ratnayake.
