Swedish woman raped at knifepoint in Pottuvil, man arrested

• He had threatened before sexually assaulting her

An 18-year-old youth who had allegedly raped a Swedish woman at knifepoint at a guest house in Pottuvil, Ampara Saturday night, has been arrested the Police said.    

They said the 31-year-old Swedish female, who arrived in the country six months ago, was staying with her local boyfriend, who runs a guest house at Pottuvil.  “The boyfriend had gone out to buy dinner on Saturday night when the 18-year-old suspect, a resident of Panama had forcibly entered the Swedish woman’s room. He had threatened her with a knife before sexually assaulting her,” the Police said.   

The victim’s boyfriend had lodged a complaint with the Ampara Police.   

The woman was admitted to the Pottuvil Hospital.
