Speaker Karu Jayasuriya yesterday announced that two new members have been appointed to the Parliamentary Select Committee appointed to inquire into the Easter Sunday attacks.

The two new members are Health Minister Rajitha Senaratne and JVP MP Nalinda Jayatissa.

Dr. Senaratne was appointed in place of MP Kavinda Jayawardene who resigned from the PSC for  personal reasons .

The PSC will inquire into whether the law enforcement authorities had received intelligence reports relating to Easter Sunday attacks, whether the relevant authorities took adequate steps to mitigate the attacks, whether there was any deficiencies in the State machinery that led to the inability to mitigate or prevent the attacks, whether any other factors contributed to the attacks, what action should be taken to prevent such attacks in the future.

Under an amendment that was made later the PSC will also have the mandate to determine whether any Minister, an MP or any provincial governor had any connections with the terror group which carried out the attack.
