Alliance Air to operate 3 flights a week to Jaffna from Indian destinations

Alliance Air, the subsidiary of Air India, will send its inaugural flight to the Jaffna International Airport on October 17 with invitees from the aviation industry, an official said. The airport will be inaugurated on October 17 with the participation of President Maithripala Sirisena and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe.  
 
Airport runway length has been extended from 950 metres to 1400 metres. Under phase 2, the runway length will be extended up to 2300 metres.   


ATR 72 Aircraft carrying 70 passengers at a time can be accommodated. Alliance Air has confirmed three flights per week from Indian destinations including Chennai.   
The Road Development Authority (RDA) constructed the new apron, taxi way, overlaying runway and road ways. Airport & Aviation Services (Sri Lanka)  Limited (AASL) constructed Flights Control Tower, Terminal building, fire brigade facilities, Office complex & Air Navigation systems.
