The Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau (SLTPB) is planning to seek Cabinet approval for the 5-year global promotional campaign in mid February, after securing SLTPB board approval
last week.

The newly appointed SLTPB director board headed by Sri Lanka Tourism Chief Kimarli Fernando met for the first time last Thursday.

During the meeting SLTPB board approved the plan for the 5-year global promotional campaign presented by SLTPB officials.

Speaking to Mirror Business, a SLTPB official said they are likely to forward the 5-year global promotional campaign for Cabinet approval by mid-February.

SLTPB has commenced the campaign’s documentation which is to be presented to the Cabinet, and subsequently it (SLTPB) would enter into
procurement process.

As per the finalised plan, SLTPB has proposed to appoint a creative agency initially to develop promotional material.

Thereafter, SLTPB plans to appoint destination representation companies for key source markets, which include UK, Germany, France, India, China, Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, Australia and Russia within the year.

In 2021, it is proposed to appoint PR companies for six emerging tourism source markets—Spain, Italy, Scandinavia (Denmark, Norway, and Sweden), Japan, South Korea and USA.
SLTPB will carry out all the promotional activities through these agencies based on the requirements in each specific market.

The 5-year promotional campaign is aimed at achieving the government’s objective of generating US$ 10 billion revenue from tourism by 2025.

Sri Lanka ended 2019 with 1,913,702 tourists, achieving the revised arrival target set for the year, displaying considerable recovery from the deadly Easter Sunday attacks in April. (NF)
