A special operation has been conducted in the eight provinces except in the Western Province to apprehend the persons who have left the Province after the travel restrictions were imposed, police said.
Police Spokesman DIG Ajith Rohana said those who left the Western Province would be ordered to follow a 14-day quarantine at the place where they currently at.
“The police stations outside the Western Province have been informed to check all hotels and other lodging places. If a persons were found in those locations, they would be placed under 14-day self-quarantine,” he said.
In addition, legal action would also be taken against them after the completion of quarantine for violating the quarantine order.
Police urged the public who are in the Western Province not to violate the quarantine order until the restrictions are removed on Sunday night.
They said the public transport services will not be operated from the Western Province to other provinces until Sunday. (Darshana Sanjeewa Balasuriya)
