One of Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa's Secretaries, who was appointed last year to office, has been sacked from his position for allegedly committing financial fraud amounting to millions of rupees from the Prime Minister's bank account, the Daily Mirror learns.

According to sources, the official was also functioning as a secretary for several years when the Prime Minister was the opposition leader and had been given an ATM card which had access to one of the Prime Minister's bank accounts maintained at a state bank.

It is alleged that the official had been withdrawing money from this account which held the salary of Rajapaksa when he was the President, through this ATM card.

However upon learning of the fraud, the secretary had been sacked from office with immediate effect.  (Darshana Sanjeewa Balasuriya)
