Justice Minister accuses police of false arrests

Minister of Justice Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe today alleged that some police officers have falsely arrested persons on drug-related offences.

“Police lately have arrested a large number of persons for keeping drugs in their possession, but the substances they have recovered from the suspects have not been narcotic drugs, the Minister said.

“Genuine arrests have been less than one percent,” he added.

“There are instances where it has been found "Panadol" powder from the possession of suspects. There are also instances where wrong tips have been given to police as acts of revenge,” he also said.

“We will launch a special program to monitor the situation and to take preventive measures,” the Minister assured.

Mud sling against current IGP, for SLPP MPs burnt houses Saturday, 18 March 2023 11:46 PM

First I read of it I was in disbelief. After hearing all the positive vibes about Deshabundu, I put two and two together to realise this is, whether the Minister claim is true or not, the aim is to politically assassinate the current IGP. Many in SLPP are still furious about their houses being burnt down, while current IGP is in the role.

    Royalist Sunday, 19 March 2023 06:18 AM

This is so true They arrested me for just having rolling paper box which has no act or panatha saying its illegal. And I've heard so many stories people just getting arrested and threatened n ask for money..

Doubt the claims things become so poor Sunday, 19 March 2023 08:20 AM

He complained a lot in parliament about Sepal Amarasinghe. He does not seem a man with honest motives as he is always talking too much about no one being able to insult our cultural heritage, when clearly this kind of farce would not happen in Western democracies with freedoms of speech. There faults like these if really happen would be seen much earlier.
