Power and Energy Minister Kanchana Wijesekera said that Ceylon Petroleum Corparation (CPC) has informed him that the suppliers that had confirmed Petrol, Diesel and CrudeOil Shipments to arrive earlier this week and next week has communicated the inability to fulfill the deliveries on time for banking and logistic reasons.
"Until the next shipments are at Port and unloaded, Public Transport, Power Generation and Industries will be given a priority. Limited stocks of Diesel and Petrol will be distributed to limited stations throughout next week and request the public not to line up for fuel," he tweeted.
At the moment CPC is not able to confirm the arrival dates of the shipments with the new developments, he said.
The minister said that refinery operations will be temporarily closed until the next crude shipment.
"We are working with all new and existing suppliers. I Apologize for the delay and inconvenience," he said.
However the Daily Mirror had reported on Thursday, quoting CPC Trade Union sources, that no fuel shipments were expected anytime soon despite the Minister's assurance and queried as to how the Minister has made the assurance that a fuel shipment was on the way.(Darshana Sanjeewa Balasuriya)

I read that only 1 ship with fuel was close to sri lanka 2 days ago but diverted to Singapore or someplace, so how does this minister only know today that fuel isn't coming, what do ministers do all day? Party, spend tax payers money, how much of their time do they spend trying to fix sl? Take away their privileges and stick them in an office from 9 to 5 no exceptions, maybe then we'll get something done, they are just freeloaders, milking sri lanka dry

Cabinet Ministers are there to Promise the World to the people and, when Nothing Materialises, offer Stupid explanations and their Apolgies. Minister Kanchana Wijesekara is doing an excellent job. The Prez. and the PM must be Proud of picking him as the Minister of Power and Energy.

We have enough public transport facilities to go to work. only thing we are lacking is that public transport systems are not 1) on time, 1) not clean enough 3) over crowded. make the public transport system comfortable and convenient. pleas encourage all, including doctors, nurses, lawyers, and MPs, to use public transport to go to work.
