Dinesh Schaffter’s secretary had not informed police over meeting with Brian Thomas

The police said today that it was an executive officer of businessman Dinesh Schaffter and not his secretary, who had informed the police that Dinesh had scheduled a meeting with former cricket commentator Brian Thomas on the day Schaffter was killed.

Meanwhile, police said that statements had been recorded from over 50 people over Schaffter's murder. It was earlier reported that the secretary of Dinesh Schaffter had informed the police that Schaffter had been planning to meet Brian Thomas on the day he was killed. However, an official of Dinesh Schaffter's company told Daily Mirror it was an executive grade officer who informed the police about the meeting and the police had never recorded a statement from Schaffter's secretary over the incident.

Police said the executive officer who found Dinesh at the Borella Cemetery and later took him to the Colombo National Hospital had informed the Borella police after the death that Dineshwas scheduled to meet Thomas.

However, investigations carried out so far had revealed that a text message was sent from the mobile phone of Dinesh Schaffter to the mobile phone of Brian Thomas after Schaffter became a victim at the Borella Cemetery.

The investigators are yet to make an arrest.

However, sources within the department said that they are working 24-hour daily in this case and would be able to solve the murder mystery soon.

A country eager to read news of how as a nation we are faring in battling the economic crisis, what next, etc is given a daily dose of rubbish about Priyamalis and now Dinesh and every second day a day light shooting. Please Mr President improve your communications on matters of national importance and give leadership to take all our ignorant fools with sovereign power on a single journey to recover. We are a nation who in 2019 out of 34 presidential candidates voted 6.9m for a failed president and another 5.4m for a young man with very little substance. Someone like you should play a thought leader role spelling out the first 5 years of your 2048 plan. no Volkswagen factories gold bracelets or Omani oil refineries but a realistic plan... assuming you have one.

Very true. Everyday we are getting updates on this murder. So many are shot in broad daylight we never hear a thing. Dinesh obviously has gone to meet this person /persons and has been to the cemetery many times as he knew the place to go.Wonder what secret deal was going on. Had taken snacks for two. Don't know why it has taken over a week to make a single arrest. The murderer would have left the country already.

What is so special about this corpse that it has to be reported on in detail every day? In Sri Lanka, an average of 2 to 3 people are murdered every day without being reported on in such detail.

Dinesh s involved with shady deals shown by the fact cemetry was chosen as a meeting place by a very rich person for whatever reason.He should have been a frequent visitor there for improper deal businesses.Police should investigate this aspect for than the murder which is of course an underhand deal gone wrong. Catching a man as a murderer is not the most important thing here.

The CID does not seem to be equal to the task as they have still failed to find the culprits so long after the crime. If the CID is under pressure from the top, it would be prudent to obtain assistance from the SCOTLAND YARD for an impartial investigation.

I am trying to figure out why the Chairman told a executive officer of the company where he was going and whom he was to meet, instead of his secretary!!. It appears to be obvious that the executive officer would have been instructed to come to the meeting point if he did not hear from the chairman within some amount of time, or else why would he be the one to find the Chairman and take him to hospital!! more to this the executive officer should be grilled further. No mention of what he told his wife about the meeting, if so not seen any mention made in the past other than to say she was questioned. I guess this murder has to be solved without further delay to unravel the mystery that surrounds it and sad to say it may open a new can of worms.
