Former Fiji Captain Setefano Cakau has been considered for the Sri Lanka Seven’s rugby head coach job despite Sri Lanka Rugby’s (SLR) failure to finalize the national squad ahead of the Asia Rugby Seven’s Series in November.

A well-known 7’s star Setefano is one of the most respected players all over the world and is no stranger for Sri Lanka rugby fraternity having played for Sri Lanka Navy Sports Club nearly a decade ago. Towards the end of his club career in Sri Lanka he was also made a part of the coaching staff of the Navy side led by flanker Yoshitha Rajapaksa at the time.

His name has been considered for the job following Ben Gollings’ firm request for a professional contract. Gollings of course, remains to be the number one choice for Sri Lanka Rugby, but the ‘Daily Mirror’ learns that the former English superstar who is currently based in Australia requires appropriate documentation from Sri Lankan authorities to leave the country and join the Sri Lankan rugby team which though has yet not been finalized.

The ‘Daily Mirror’ however, can confirm Gollings has already been working with the leading rugby coaches in Sri Lanka utilizing online communication sources.

Setefano was an outstanding rugby player just like Gollings, and probably had a bigger influence on his national team Fiji during his career as a sevens ruggerrite, but Gollings certainly has a very impressive curriculum vitae having previously coached in Sri Lanka, China and Australia. Sanity must prevail!
