Revamped Sri Lanka Rugby 7s on Saturday

The revamped club rugby 7s tournament will kick off this Saturday at the Race Course Grounds without powerhouse Kandy SC, with the remaining club teams joined by Western Babarians in Segment A of the renamed Sri Lanka Rugby 7s.

In a bid to open out the tournament, Sri Lanka Rugby (SLR) has taken the competition beyond clubs, also inviting Provincial teams, who will play in Segment B.

Four club teams will be represented in the Women’s Club competition, with six teams taking part in the Women’s Provincial segment.

Nippon Paint, who sponsored the Club League tournament, have come forward to sponsor the Sevens event as well, with the best men’s and women’s player getting an airline ticket each from Turkish Airlines.

Other sponsors for the tournament include Elephant House, Webex Pay, Prima Kottu Mee and Siddhalepa, with support also coming from the Pakistan High Commission.

  • Group A – Men’s Segment 1: Police SC, Army SC, CR & FC, Navy Blues
  • Group B – Men’s Segment 1: Havelock SC, Air Force SC, Navy SC, Western Babarians
  • Group C – Men’s Segment 2: Southern Pro, NCP, Western Pro, Sabaragamuwa
  • Group D – Men’s Segment 2: Upcountry Planters, Wayamba – NW, Uva, Blue Whales – EP
  • Group E – Club Women’s: Navy SC, Army SC, Air Force SC, CR & FC
  • Group F – Provincial Women’s: Uva, Southern, Central
  • Group G – Provincial Women’s: NW- Wayamba, Sabaragamuwa, CR Blues – WP
