Twenty weightlifters picked for IWF meet

The Sri Lanka Weightlifting Federation (SLWF) have submitted a 20-member contingent for Sports Minister’s approval targeting the Commonwealth Championships and the IWF World Championships, from December 7 to 17 in Uzbekistan.

Earlier, the Commonwealth Championship was set to be held in Singapore in October but was moved to Uzbekistan due to COVID-19 protocols. Sri Lanka’s main focus will be on the Commonwealth Championship as a number of weightlifters are set to represent the country at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, England. The Sri Lanka Weightlifting Squad, which
has been submitted to the Sports Minister:

(Men):
Dilanka Kumara, ChathurangaLakmal, Thilanka Ranasinghe, Indika Dissanayake, Sudesh Peiris, Chinthaka Vidanage, Shanaka Madushanka, Saman Abeywickrama, UshanCharuka and Asitha Deshapriya. Reserve: Ruchira Ranjith.

(Women):

Srimali Samarakoon, Hansani Gomes, Chamari Warnakulasuriya, Mohideen Umeira, N. S. Rajapaksa, Arshika Vijayabaskar, D. T. Guurugama, D. N. Sanjana, Chathurika Priyanthi and B. J. Haputhenna.
