Skipper Nipun, Ahan, Kamil steer Sri Lanka U19 to Plate Final

Sri Lanka U19 qualified to the Plate Final of the ICC U19 world Cup when they recorded a convincing 97-run win on the Duckworth/Lewis method over Scotland U19 in the semi-final encounter played at the University ground in Potchefstroom.

The foundation for the win was laid by skipper Nipun Dhananjaya, Ahan Wickramasinghe and Kamil Mishara with the trio cracking half tons to help Sri Lanka U19 taking first lease of the wicket make a formidable score of 277 for 6.

Scotland U19 in pursuit of a massive target of 278 runs were never in the chase as they succumbed to the bowling trio of Chamindu Wijesinghe, Dilshan Madusanka and Kavindu Nadeeshan and were struggling on 149 for 8 in 40 overs when play was called off due to bad weather.

Sri Lanka U19 will meet the winner of the second semi-final between England U19 and Zimbabwe U19 scheduled to be played today. The Plate final is slotted to be played on February 3.
Meanwhile, Bangladesh U19 made the semi-finals of the ICC U19 World Cup Super League segment when they coasted to an easy 102-run win over host South Africa U19 in the quarter-final encounter played at the Senwes Park in Potchefstroom.

Bangladesh U19 taking first lease of the wicket was steered by Tanzid Hasan, Towhid Hridoy and Shahadat Hossain who made half tons for them to post a formidable score of 261 for 5. Later left arm spinner Rakibul Hasan who ended with a five-wicket haul ran through the host batting to restrict them for a score of just 157 runs.

In two other matches played Canada U19 outclassed Japan U19 by 182 runs and United Arab Emirates U19 overcame Nigeria U19 by seven wickets. Canada U19 and UAE U19 will play each other to decide the 13th slot.
