SLR President Rizly Illyas (L) shakes hand with Michael Appleton NZ High Commissioner

Michael Appleton, New Zealand’s High Commissioner-designate for Sri Lanka, made a cordial visit to Sri Lanka Rugby with New Zealand’s Honorary Consul Mr Senaka Silva last afternoon.
The President of Sri Lanka Rugby - Mr Rizly Illyas welcomed him and shared a detailed Presentation about Sri Lanka Rugby’s Strategic Plan for 2021-2024 which highlighted the short and long term goals along with the development plans for the future. He also stated about the vaccination drive which commenced last week for all the Rugby players and plans to conduct the Inter Club Rugby Sevens tournament in Mid October this year.
In the meeting which lasted one hour, Mr Appleton had stressed on his keenness to see the sport being embraced in Sri Lanka and the progress of the Sri Lankan team in coming years.
Mr Silva stressed his solidarity with Sri Lanka’s Rugby aspirations for the future.
Mr Rizly Illyas also presented the duo Sri Lanka Rugby merchandise and mementos while thanking them for the visit and discussed plans to support Sri Lanka Rugby in the coming years to end the meeting.
