National Super League: Janith, Sharujan steer Colombo

Janith Liyanage and Sharujan Shanmuganathan came to the rescue of Colombo against Kandy on day one of the four-day National Super League cricket encounter played at Dambulla.

Colombo, taking first lease of the wicket, fell into deep trouble as they lost the top four wickets with the score on 32 before Janith, who made an unbeaten 130 with 13 boundaries, and Sharujan, 82 with five boundaries and a six, rescued them with an unbroken 223-run stand for the fifth wicket for Colombo at the end of day one with a score of 255 for 4.

An unbeaten ton by Sadeera Samarawickrama and a half-ton by Ahan Wickramasinghe, who together shared a stand of 166 runs for the fourth wicket, helped Galle taking first lease of the wicket to make a score of 255 runs against Dambulla, who ended day one on 36 for 1 in another match of the same tournament played at R. Premadasa Stadium.

The matches will continue today.
