Abans announced its title sponsorship of the 76th Battle of the Golds cricket encounter between Moratuwa’s two most esteemed educational institutions, St. Sebastian’s College and Prince of Wales’ College from March 7 to 8 followed by the one-day match on March 14.
Speaking on the partnership Chief Marketing Officer of Abans, Chathura Jayawardena, said the sponsorship will strengthen its commitment to empowering youth and nurturing sporting excellence.
“We are incredibly proud to associate with the Battle of the Golds, a series that has long embodied the passion and discipline of school cricket.
“At Abans, we believe in building and supporting platforms that inspire the next generation of sports stars. This partnership signifies our commitment to investing in Sri Lanka’s youth and celebrating the enduring spirit of collegiate cricket,” said Jayawardena.
The match and sponsorship was launched in the presence of the principal of Prince of Wales’ College, Major Damindra Kudaligama and Rector of St. Sebastian’s College Rev. Fr. Daya Dharshana Perera who expressed their appreciation of Abans’ support.
Both institutions have been home to cricket talent over the years, with St. Sebastian’s College having produced renowned cricketers like Duleep Mendis, Rumesh Kaluwitharana, Roger Wijesooriya, Prasanna Jayawardana, Sajeewa de Silva, Vishwa Fernando, Avishka Fernando, Praveen Jayawickrama and Amila Aponso while Prince of Wales’ College has produced Kusal Mendis, Lahiru Thirimanna, Amal Silva, Shehan Jayasuriya and DS. de Silva.
