Organisers of the prestigious Ceylon Masters International Badminton Championship are expecting an increased number of foreign participants at the sixth edition of the tournament, scheduled to be held from June 25 to 29 in Colombo.
The championship also provides a valuable opportunity for Sri Lanka’s large base of over 1000 active Masters players many of whom are unable to compete overseas, to gain international exposure by competing against top-level global players.
The president of Ceylon Masters Badminton (CMB), Rohan de Silva, said that the steady growth of the competition over the past five years has generated strong interest among internationally recognised masters-level players.
He noted that the 2026 edition has already received a significant number of inquiries, particularly from overseas players, reflecting the tournament’s rising reputation. According to him, the championship has evolved into a key event in the global masters’ badminton calendar, maintaining high standards and quality since its inception.
With a strong lineup of both local and international players expected to compete, organisers are making extensive preparations to ensure the success of the sixth edition. Participants will compete for honours as well as an attractive total prize pool of USD 15,000 while enjoying modern facilities and convenient access to the venue according to the organisers.
Beyond competition, the tournament also contributes to sports tourism in Sri Lanka. Many foreign participants are expected to travel with their families and extend their stay to explore the country after the event offering added economic value.
