Ministry of Sports and Sri Lanka Rugby (SLR) have agreed to provide an opportunity for players from Kandy SC and CR & FC to be considered for national selection despite earlier informing them that they could not participate in the Club 7’s organized by Police Sports Club at the end of this month.
They have decided that CR and Kandy national squad players will be included to the final selected pool from the Police SC & Tri Forces rugby tournament on October 30 and 31, subject to the selected players going through a condition test under the supervision of K Kumara, who has been appointed as SLR Condition Coach for both men’s and women’s teams on the instruction of the Ministry.
He has agreed to conduct this test in Kandy next week and monitor the players thereafter.
The selected players, after qualifying the condition test, will be subject to further trials games with the rest of the pool and before the final squad for the Asian Sevens Series is selected.
Meanwhile, Director General of Sports Amal Edirisooriya has stated that he would facilitate the Sugathadasa dormitory for all 40 players at a discounted rate and he would discuss the payment settlement with the Ministry’s High Performance committee
