Sri Lanka’s Dinara de Silva and Aahil Kaleel emerged as junior girls’ and boys’ singles champions of the SSC - ITF International Junior Week 2 tennis tournament by coming out on top in the two finals played at the SSC tennis courts in Colombo yesterday.
In fact, it was Dinara’s second successive singles title, as she succeeded in defending the title she had won in the Week 1 tournament last week. Dinara clinched the title by coasting to an easy two-sets-to-nil win against another Sri Lankan player, Yuhansa Peiris.
Dinara ended her junior international campaign on a winning note, as this was her last junior international tennis tournament.
Meanwhile, Aahil, following his narrow win in the semi final was again given a fright by another Indian player, Chauhan Shiok, as he had to pull out all the tricks out of the bag before prevailing with a hard-fought two-sets-to-one victory.
Aahil’s win saw a Sri Lankan player winning a junior international tennis tournament on Sri Lankan soil after a lapse of 14 years, which was achieved by Shamal Dissanayake in 2012.
