St. Peter’s College Bambalapitiya and Walala Rathnayake MMV clinched the Boys’ and Girls’ overall titles respectively at the 88th Sir John Tarbat Senior Athletics Championships which concluded at the Sugathadasa Stadium in Colombo.
The Peterites continued their dominance on the third and final day of the meet as well and finished with a tally of 206 points.
Maris Stella College Negombo emerged overall runners-up with 115 points while Royal College Colombo finished third with 107 points.
Rathnayake MMV took the Girls’ overall title with 240 points while Gateway College emerged runners-up with 95 points followed by Sumana Balika Vidyalaya, Ratnapura with 81 points.
Meanwhile, S. T. Amarasinghe of Royal College Colombo and Parami Wasanthi of Kuliyapitiya CC were selected Best Athlete in the Boys’ and Girls’ category respectively.
A total of 23 new meet records were established during the three-day meet.
Championship trophies:
Field event champions – Girls’: Sumana Balika Vidyalaya – 47 points.
Field event champions – Boys’: St. Peter’s Bambalapitiya – 66 points.
Track event champions – Girls’: Rathnayake MMV Walala – 230 points.
Track event champions – Boys’: St. Peter’s Bambalapitiya – 140 points
Relay champions – Girls’: Rathnayake MMV Walala – 42 points.
Relay champions – Boys’: St. Peter’s Bambalapitiya – 47 points
Best Long Jumper: Pramod Madushan (Maris Stella) and Hirusha Hashen (St. Peter’s Bambalapitiya).
Best High Jumper: S. T. Amarasinghe (Royal Colombo).
Best 400m Runner: D. M. Bogoda (Sir John Kotelawala MV Kurunegala).
Best Athlete – Girls’: Parami Wasanthi (Kuliyapitiya CC).
Best Athlete – Boys’: S. T. Amarasinghe (Royal Colombo).
Outstation overall champions – Girls’: Sumana Balika Vidyalaya – 81 points.
Outstation overall champions – Boys’: Maris Stella College) - 115 points.
Overall champions – Girls’: Rathnayake MMV Walala – 240 points.
Overall champions – Boys’: St. Peter’s Bambalapitiya – 206 points.
