The 4th CISM World Military Beach Volleyball Championship begins today (13), at Negombo Beach Park. The finals of the tournament will be held on February 17.
This is the first time it is being held under the auspices of the International Military Sports Council (CISM) and organised by the Defence Service Sports Board and Sri Lanka Air Force Sports Council.
Germany, Colombia, France, the Netherlands, Oman, Saudi Arabia, Venezuela, and Sri Lanka are the eight countries participating in the tournament.
There are 16 men’s and nine women’s teams taking part in the tournament.
A 12-member pool comprising players from Army, Air Force, and Navy, representing Sri Lanka’s tri-forces, has been formed for this tournament, out of which two men and two women will be selected.
The CISM World Military Beach Volleyball Championship was to be held in Sri Lanka last year but was postponed due to the situation in the country.
Sri Lanka Air Force says entry is free for spectators.
