Sri Lankan media should reveal the truth to the people on various issues in society without playing to the agendas of various political parties, Archbishop of Colombo Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith said over the weekend.

Delivering a sermon during a service held to mark the seventh anniversary of Virbum TV the only local Catholic TV channel, Cardinal Ranjith said media will not last if it embraces political agendas and hides the truth.
" It is sad to notice some media institutions covering up the truth. This is done by media institutions that are controlled by the ruling party and other political parties. There are media institutions that cater to politicians they only cater to those viewers and readers who welcome ideologies of certain political parties. Political leaders will not last long so are the political parties. Media institutions which cater to politicians also will not last long," he said.
" Media which hides the truth will perish when the truth comes out. The truth will come out someday and this cannot be prevented," he added.
