Two youth die in car, motorcycle collision on central expressway under construction

Two youth aged 19 and 24 years were killed when their motorcycle collided with a car near the 59Km post of the Central Expressway, which is currently under construction. 

Police Spokesman Senior DIG Ajith Rohana said that the motorcycle had entered the expressway illegally and was travelling towards Kurunegala at around 7.00 last night when the incident occurred. He said the expressway is not open for vehicular movements. 


It was reported that the motorcycle and the car caught fire after the accident. 


The spokesman said five persons were travelling in the car when the accident took place, and the police arrested two men. Investigation is underway to arrest the remaining three suspects. 


SDIG Rohana said legal action would be taken against them on charges violating quarantine rules and reckless driving.
