Two Sooriyawewa cricket ground staffers killed by rogue elephant

Two persons have been killed due to an attack by a wild elephant while they were riding a motorcycle at Meegahajadura in Sooriyawewa on Tuesday night.  

Police said the deceased have been identified as 36 and 49 year old residents of Sooriyawewa and Meegahajadura.  


It was reported that the deceased were two ground staff from the Sooriyawewa Mahinda Rajapaksa international stadium in Hambantota.  
The two workers were heading home when they were attacked outside the Sooriyawewa stadium. in Hambantota.  


The men had been carrying out preparatory work for the semi-finals and finals of the Lanka Premier League due to be held at the stadium later this month.   Meanwhile, the police have urged the public to be vigilant when travelling at night on roads in areas where wild elephants roam and to restrict unnecessary movements as much as possible to minimize such incidents.
