Two COVID related deaths reported from Galle and Kandy

  • As per the latest statistics available 11 people had died of the pandemic during the week between November 12 and November 18

A resident of Udawalawa area had died of Corona at the Karapitiya Teaching hospital. The 54 year old retired soldier who had undergone brain surgery had developed pneumonia and died on Saturday (26). 

JMO Dr. Anuruddha Uhanovita who performed the postmortem examination had reported that the patient had died of Corona infection after the surgery.   


Galle City Coroner Mahesh Dharmaratne who held the inquest returned a verdict of death of Corona. It transpired at the inquest that the patient had been suffering from diabetes and cholesterol as well.   


Another death related to COVID-19 was reported from Kandy General Hospital. Actg. Director Dr. Iresha Fernando said the deceased was a 55 year old police sergeant from Monaragala.   
She said the patient had been admitted to the Kundasale Police Hospital, when he was taken ill and transferred to Kandy General Hospital in a critical condition.   


According to the reports of the Epidemiology Unit of the Health Ministry COVID 19 related deaths countrywide have dropped to a minimum level since April with only a few deaths occurring every week. 


According to the latest statistics available 11 people had died of the pandemic during the week between November 12 and November 18 with the highest number of 7 persons being reported from hospitals in the Western Province.
