Stealing money from Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa’s account clearly shows the escalation of thefts, frauds and corruption in the country, JVP MP Vijitha Herath said yesterday.  He said they have so much of money in their accounts which they are unable to keep track of.

“Millions of rupees which were in the Prime Minister’s account when he was the President, had been robbed by one of his close associates. He had not checked his account all that time,” he said.

Addressing a press conference, he said giving Rs.5,000 as an allowance to state employees by printing money would only aggravate the crisis. “These are ignorant decisions of the Finance Minister. This will only worsen the crisis,” he said.

Referring to the power crisis, he said there could be an organized conspiracy behind the power crisis. “How can Central Bank Governor Ajith Nivaard Cabraal allocate Dollars following a discussion with the President? USD 374 million has been spent on fruit and vegetable imports during eleven months in 2020 and USD 415 million in 2021,” he said.
