  • The opposition had not done anything for the protection of people at a time when not only Sri Lanka but also the whole world was facing the pandemic

State Minister Nimal Lanza charged that the opposition was acting in an irresponsible manner paving the way for new Covid-19 clusters in the country by demonstrating regardless of health guidelines.

He said the opposition had not done anything for the protection of people at a time when not only Sri Lanka but also the whole world was facing the pandemic .  “ They are protesting without even following the minimum health advice and working to create Covid-19 clusters across the country. They do not fulfil their responsibility in the least . This is not an election. This is not an opportunity to toe political agendas,” he said.  He said the best and fastest vaccination programme in South Asia is implemented in Sri Lanka .

“The vaccination programme is being implemented for all those who are of the age to be vaccinated. People are also interested in getting vaccinated. Vaccination has been activated to cover every field. After the success of this programme, the country will have the opportunity to open up. In order to achieve the country’s economic goals, the country must be opened up to the tourism industry and opportunities for investment must be provided,” he said.
The Minister said the problems of the teachers should be solved, but it was inappropriate for the opposition to politicize the issue.   “ It will affect our future generations. Therefore, I request the teachers’ unions to be aware of this and the current situation on the country,” he said.
