Seven police divisions probe sexual abuse on teenage girl

At least seven police divisions are continuing their investigation into the rape and sexual abuse of a 15-year-old girl from Mount Lavinia and a total of 41 suspects have been arrested so far in connection with the case.   

The Police have launched an investigation for this malicious act, following an arrest of a 35-year old man on June 7.  


The investigation was initiated based on the revelations made by the 15-year-old girl and her mother who is also one of the suspects, and the main suspect.  


It was revealed that the main suspect had published numerous advertisements on websites luring people to exploit the girl for their sexual thirst.  


Initially, the Inspector General of Police handed over the investigation to the Child and Women Bureau at the Police Headquarters.  


Accordingly, the investigations are also being carried out by the Criminal Investigation Department, Criminal Intelligence and Prevention Division, the Illegal Property and Assets Investigation Division, the Police Narcotics Bureau, the Human Trafficking and Maritime Crimes Investigation Division, the Close Imaging Division and the Computer Crimes Investigation Division under the supervision of the DIG of CID and the Senior DIG Crime and Traffic Ajith Rohana.  


At least 41 suspects including the Deputy Chairman of  Mihintale Pradeshiya Sabha and gem merchant, a cardiologist of the Sri Lanka Navy and a police officer were among those who have been arrested and produced before the Court from time to time for alleged sexual abuse on the girl.   


It was revealed that the girl was also first molested in 2018 by her own father.  


Her father was also among the arrested. The girl’s mother was also taken into custody on charges of aiding and abetting the crime.  


Police said that the investigation has been expanded to analyse all the phone records, websites, bank records, CCTV and other information that have been uncovered.
