A cross-talk on crossovers was witnessed in Parliament yesterday, with SLPP MP Jagath Kumara Sumithrarachchi denying a remark made by Chief Opposition Whip Lakshman Kiriella that he had offered to join Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) with 25 others.

“Mr. Kiriella told Parliament the other day that I telephoned him and offered to join SJB together with 25 other ruling party members. “I have never talked to Mr. Kiriella at any time nor did I have any close rapport with him any time. I request that this statement made by Kiriella be expunged in the Hansard,” MP Kumara said.

The MP threatened to file legal action against the Chief Opposition Whip.

“Many ruling party MPs used to call us during the time of Aragalaya. I used to get around seven telephone calls from the SLPP MPs. One MP who identified himself as Jagath Kumara and offered to join SJB,” Mr. Kiriella responded.
