SL to implement Paris Agreement on climatic change

Sri Lanka is to launch a national programme to implement the Paris Agreement on climatic change, Presidential Advisor on Climatic Plans Ruwan Wijewardene said yesterday.   

The decision to launch a national level programme was made at a meeting which Mr. Wijewardene held with the Climatic Threats Caucus and the officers attached to Ministry of Environment. The Head of Climatic Threat Caucus Former President and Current Speaker of Maldivian Legislature Mohamed Nashid also participated in the discussion.   
Accordingly Sri Lanka is to seek international assistance to resolve whatever effects which sectors such as agriculture, irrigation and fisheries could experience as a result of climatic changes. The main objective is to minimize the effect of climatic change in Sri Lanka and to prepare the island nation to face climatic challenges” a statement from Mr. Wijewardene said.   
The Climatic Threat Caucus which comprise 55 countries is also expect to assist Sri Lanka in this endeavor.   


It was said that Sri Lanka’s development policies will also be shaped by considering climatic challenges.
