Poson festival to commence today without pilgrims

Poson festival will be held from June 21 to 27 for the 2329th year in a low key without the participation of pilgrims in view of the Covid pandemic. Anuradhapura Govt. Agent and Chairman of the Poson Festival Committee R. M. Dissanayake said religious activities in Anuradhapura Atamastana,  Mihintale and Thanthirimale temples would be organised under the guidance of the Mahasangha including Chief Incumbent of the Anuradhapura Atamastana Ven. Pallegama Sirinivasa Thera.

The theme of the Poson festival this year is health and happiness for the people all over the world.


The GA said chanting of Ratana Suthra will be held in the Mihintale Sacred City during the Poson week by the Mahasangha of the area including Chief Incumbent of the Mihintale Rajamaha Vihara Ven. Valawahengunawewe Dhammarathana Thera. Arrangements have been made to prepare the meals for the monks in the temple.
The Lankadeepa Aloka Pooja organised by the Wijeya Newspapers Ltd to illuminate Thanthirimale Sacred City would be held on the Poson Full Moon Day. The Lake House Aloka Pooja in Mihintale would be held for three days from June 23 to 25 as usual.
