Police in mufti to monitor supermarkets, public transport

Policemen in civvies are deployed to arrest persons who do not wear masks and violate quarantine rules at supermarkets, shopping complexes and public transport services when the travel restriction is lifted, Police said.  

Police Spokesman SDIG Ajith Rohana said that policemen were deployed to check whether people who enter shops wear face masks, adhering to health guidelines and check for others violating health rules in public transport.  


He said there were reports that the public have failed to follow guidelines after the islandwide travel restriction was lifted on Monday.  


However, the travel restriction was re-imposed at 10.00 pm yesterday effective till 4.00 am tomorrow.  
All Police stations have been instructed to conduct raids to ensure the regulations are followed, he said.  
Meanwhile, the spokesman said 433 persons were arrested for violating quarantine regulations on Tuesday.  He said most of those arrested were not wearing masks.
