Petrol and diesel shipments to be received between July 8 and July 23: Minister

Several shipping agents have announced the receiving of 40,000 MT of auto diesel and petrol shipments into the country between July 8 and 23, Power and Energy Minister Kanchana Wijesekera said.  

Addressing the media yesterday, he said a sum of USD 28 million was deposited on June 30 as pre-payment for 40,000MT of auto diesel the shipment is expected to arrive in the country between July 11 and 14. Another USD 49 million has to be deposited with the Vitol shipping agent on July 8 for the shipment, he said.  


Meanwhile, another payment of USD 11 million was made to Lanka IOC for five petrol shipments. The first shipment will be received on July 22 or 23. On June 30, USD$19.95 million was paid for that shipment as an advance payment. Another payment of USD 19.95 million is to be made for the shipment on July 8. In addition, the Minister stated that another diesel shipment will arrive in the country on July 8 or 9.   


“The estimated time of arrival of another 40,000 MT of diesel shipment from the Quarrel shipping line was announced as July 8 or 9. The shipment will depart from India on July 5. No prepayment has to be made for that shipment, but the payment of USD 66.5 million should be made on the arrival of the shipment,” the Minister said.  
Meanwhile, the Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) was informed of another diesel shipment. The shipment will arrive in the country between July 15 and 17, if they agree with our payment agreements. The IOC, on the other hand, has requested a 50% advance payment for the shipment by today and a balance payment on Wednesday (6), he said.
