Officials taken to task for failing to resolve issues affecting the people

Hambantota District Secretary H.P.Sumanasekara took to task the officials for their failure to resolve issues affecting the people in their respective areas.   

Referring to the media reports that children in Suriyawewa division were suffering from malnutrition and the residents of the area had lost their livelihood during a meeting of officers in the division he said the officials were responsible for this situation. He pointed out that the officials should meet the people in each family unit and look into the issues affecting them.   
The officials were taken to task by the District Secretary for their failure to implement a programme to promote food security , to alleviate under nutrition and to uplift their standard of living in view of the prevailing economic crisis. He stressed that the officials should not attempt to pass the baby to others and to find lame excuses under the pretext of circular instructions. He warned the officials that statistics in files would not resolve the issues at ground level.   

Hambantota District Parliamentarian Namal Rajapaksa who was scheduled to attend the meeting was absent due to public protests.   
The protestors severely criticized the officials for providing mis-information to the district secretary that the people were not facing any hardships.
