Claiming that there was no mandate for an all-party-government, National People’s Power (NPP) leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake said yesterday, an interim government should be formed for a short period of time followed by a general election to obtain a new mandate.

He told Parliament that there was no mandate to govern the country jointly as people had voted for different political groups.

He said an interim government should be formed for a short period of time until the country was brought to normalcy and an opportunity should be given for a new mandate.  Mr. Dissanayake said an all-party-government should have been formed for a short period of time as proposed by them by appointing a President without future political agendas and giving equal opportunity for all stakeholders in such a government, adding that the opportunity for such a government was missed out by now.   The MP said they were not ready to be party to the Ranil-Rajapaksa government.
