India and Sri Lanka continue to share intelligence with the Sri Lankan authorities on narcotics smuggling in the Indian Ocean, a spokesman said yesterday.

A spokesman of the Indian High Commission said the Indian Coast Guard and Narcotics Bureau tracked two boats heading towards Sri Lanka with drugs and alerted the Sri Lanka Navy.
The boats were caught afterwards.

It is said these drugs appeared to have originated from Afghanistan. Taliban terrorists use drug smuggling to finance their terrorist activities.  Narcotics are smuggled into Sri Lanka mostly in transit to places such as the African coast.
