A man who killed his two children had committed suicide by hanging in an Ambalama in a paddy field in Godigamuwa in Aranayake area in the early hours of last morning.

The daughter was nine years of age and son six years and their father 33 years. Their bodies were recovered by Aranayake Police last morning. Police said the two children would have been killed at midnight or in the early hours of the morning.

The ancestral home of the children’s mother was in close proximity to the Ambalama where the bodies were lying.

The grandfather of the two children Nimal Wimalasuriya (61) told the media that the deceased were his daughter’s two children and her husband. He said the the children had been staying at his house to attend school and recently his son-in-law had left for Giriulla with his wife and two children.

“My daughter called me and said that her husband had chased after her armed with a sword. We went to Giriulla and brought her to our house and made a complaint to Aranayake Police. On the day before my son-in-law came with the two children. The complaint was to be inquired into yesterday. He left with the two children in the evening. He had killed the two children and taken his life on the way,” he said
