MP calls for legislation of prostitution

A member of the Sri Lankan Parliament yesterday called for the legislation.of prostitution.   


MP Premanath Dolawatta who was speaking during the committee stage debate on the budget stressed the need for legalising prostitution in Sri Lanka. 

“It will be possible to safeguard the rights of sex workers only if prostitution is legalized,” the MP said.   


“It is also important to safeguard the rights of transgender people. It is time for Sri Lanka to go for social reforms,” he added.   


Also he said English should be made the mode of education in schools. “Times have changed since the Sinhala only revolution,” he also said.
