A project funded by India to construct 10,000 houses in plantation areas are to begin soon, Minister of Water Supply and Estate Infrastructure Development and the General Secretary of Ceylon Workers’ Congress Jeevan Thondaman said.

The minister revealed this during a discussion he had with the CWC candidates contesting for the councils in Uva Province.

“Similarly, sleeves have to be rolled up in order to confront the challenge. it is unacceptable to shy away from adversities; that is the reason I undertook a ministerial portfolio, and not in the greed for power,” he pointed out.
“Is Local Council Election a requisite in the face of a crisis? Will there be a change caused by it? Even after the release of the polling result, Ranil Wickremesinghe will be the President and Dinesh Gunawardena will remain as the Prime Minister. No change shall be brought in the cabinet after the local polls. I do not oppose an election, but if there be an election, it should be the presidential election,” he added.    “After the resignation of Gotabaya Rajapaksa, both Sajith and Ranil both were called upon to accept the office. Both had foreseen that future of their politics shall have no hope if the offer is accepted Sajith retreated and Ranil accepted. The present condition of the country is not what it was 6 months back. Change cannot be brought about overnight. Demolition is effortless, construction is arduous,” the Minister also said.
