There will be 12- hour- power outage by December this year if the government is unable to open Letters of Credit by December this year to import coal and crude oil, SJB MP- Patali Champika Ranawaka told journalists.

“ The Government is not in a position to open Letters of Credit to import coal and crude oil. A solution has to be found to this crisis. It appears that the government is making no effort to resolve this crisis but only brags  about setting up of a new refinery and excavating for natural gas in Mannar. Talks on natural gas has been going on since 1961 and the construction of a new oil refinery has been going on  since 2011. A foundation stone was laid for a new refinery by the Iranian President who visited Sri Lanka in 2012 but the work has not got off the ground,” he added.
