Hejaaz Hisbullah’s bail application to be heard on January 20

A revision application filed on behalf of Attorney-at-law Hejaaz Hisbullah seeking an order to release him on bail was yesterday fixed for January 20 by the Court of Appeal.  

Hisbullah is seeking an order to set aside the order made by Puttlalam High Court which refused to grant bail.   


The Court of Appeal two-judge-bench comprising Justice Menaka Wijesundera and Justice Neil Iddawala fixed the revision application to be heard on January 20. 

 
An indictment under the Prevention of Terrorism Act (PTA) and the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR) Act has now been served on Hejaaz Hizbullah. According to the indictment, Hizbullah is accused of making certain statements to students in contravention of these laws.  


Hizbullah is charged under the Prevention of Terrorism Act. He was arrested on April 2020 and held in remand custody over a period of 18 months.
