Two ships of the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF) Training Squardron, “JS KASHIMA” and “JS SETOYUKI” made a goodwill visit to the Colombo Port from 18th to 20th June 2021, as part of the Overseas Training Cruse by JMSDF, a statement from the Embassy said.

The Embassy said the purpose of this overseas training cruise was to develop the seamanship and ship handling skills of officer trainees on board and to promote International goodwill with the countries of their visit.

During the visit, a variety of events was organised, such as a virtual lecture to the trainees by Rear Admiral YN Jayarathne, Deputy Chief of Staff and Commander Eastern Naval Area of the Sri Lanka Navy, as well as a goodwill exercise with the officers of the Sri Lankan Navy, which served to cultivate the trainees’ seamanship, while further promoting friendly relationships between Japan and Sri Lanka.
