Another abduction style arrest was made by a group of unidentified men in civvies claiming to be police who took a youth activist in a trishaw from the Colombo Public Library compound yesterday morning, making all together four arrests of ‘GotaGoGama’ activists. 

 Mangala Maddumage, the National Organiser of Viplawawadi Shishya Sangamaya (Revolutionary Student Union) had been approached by three men in a trishaw at midday yesterday at the Public Library and forcibly taken away, according to eyewitnesses. 


The aragalaya activists with the assistance of many lawyers tried to find the whereabouts of the abducted youth for several hours to learn that he had been taken into custody by the Police Colombo South Crime Division. 
Meanwhile, another arrest was made yesterday morning by the Slave Island Police when Galle Face aragalaya activist Piyath Nikeshala had come to the police after being summoned by the former. 


Charges had been made against Nikeshala for breaking and entering into the Presidential Palace on July 09th. 
Yesterday afternoon Bambalapitiya Police made two other arrests of youth activists when they went to give statements for another incident. 


Sasindu Sahan Tharaka, a resident of Ambalangoda and an independent activist of the Galle Face aragalaya and another youth by the name Bhanu Induwara reportedly from the Socialist Youth Union (SYU) had been placed under custody. 


The charges against them were yet to be ascertained at the time this edition went to press.  Sasindu was an active member of the ‘GotaGoGama’ library, which provided resources to the people who took part in various demonstrations and campaigns in the past four months. 


Attempts made to contact police media desk regarding these arrests were futile.
