Father and daughter drown in Kumbukkan Oya after a selfie mishap

A man and his 12-year-old daughter drowned after they fell into the Kumbukkan Oya in Pulasthipura while taking a selfie yesterday.  

Police said the 46-year-old man and his daughter who went  to see the Kumbukkan Oya had fallen and had been swept away by the  current near the Galwala Junction area.  

The police, residents, police lifeguards, navy officers and  volunteer divers immediately launched an operation to find the missing  father and daughter.  
The two bodies were later  found in the Paranagama area about two kilometres from the place where  they had fallen into the Oya.  

Police said the deceased are residents of Katthankudi and the father is a teacher in a school in Ongama.  

The bodies have been deposited at the Polonnaruwa Hospital  for post-mortem examinations, and the Pulastipura Police are conducting  further investigations.
