The country seems to be heading for an unofficial lockdown this week, with schools being closed and public transport being limited.

According to some reports, the Government is considering imposing some urgent measures to ensure sufficient fuel is made available for essential services.

Ambulance services and the fire department are said to be facing difficulties owing to the fuel shortage.

Meanwhile, railway authorities said that train operations might also be affected if there is insufficient fuel to operate the trains. A work-from-home period has already been declared for non-essential staff in the public sector. The military has also been deployed to fuel stations to control unruly behaviour.
