Statements had been recorded from the driver of the car which was driven on the expressway in a reckless manner with a group of men after he was summoned to report to the Expressway Division Police Unit along with the passengers.

Police Spokesman DIG Ajith Rohana said the driver of the car as well as all those who travelled in it dangerously will be prosecuted.

The original owner of the car is a resident of Peradeniya Road in Kandy and in 2015 he had sold the car to a person at Akurana in Alawathugoda, the DIG said.

The spokesman said that the driver, the original owner of the car and the son of the current owner of the car reported to the Expressway Division Police Unit yesterday morning.
He said action would be taken against them after statements are recorded.

He said the four persons who travelled in the car were identified and they have been informed to report to the Police unit.

Police launched an investigation after the video circulated on social media.

The video shows that four persons on board the sedan, had lowered the shutters and were seated on the doors facing each other from both sides of the vehicle.

Their unruly behaviour had caused disturbance and distraction to the fellow motorists who were driving on the expressway.

DIG Rohana said that the car had entered the Southern Expressway on Saturday (10) from Kadawatha and travelled towards Galle and then returned to Kandy after exiting at Kadawatha.
