Branding Sri Lanka as a nation is the need of the hour to bring the country back towards top in the international community and Sri Lanka Institute for Marketing (SLIM) is ready to spearhead the movement, the SLIM said yesterday.

Many a countries in the world have achieved its developed status by nation branding and it’s high time such practice should be applied to Sri Lanka to regain its old reputation in the international sector.

Addressing a special news briefing yesterday President SLIM Nuwan Gamage said Sri Lanka which was at the 68th ranking in the international index of Brand Financing and currently it has stooped to the 74th position.

“Every developed country is reputed for a nation branding like Swiss chocolates and tech products in Germany. In Sri Lanka we should have our own branding as a nation, which could take the country forward to be recognized as a developed country once again,” he said.

Chairperson Nation Branding Project Kavi Rajapaksha said the countries like Dominican Republic and Bhutan have managed to achieve a lot by nation branding and in Sri Lanka we have much more potential, skill and citizens who could contribute to that.
