16% students, 26% teachers attend school on first day: Edu. Min. Sec

  • Attendance of teachers and students reported in schools in the Western Province was recorded at seven per cent
  • 39 percent of students and 45 percent of teachers attended schools in the Northern and Eastern Provinces

A total of 16 percent of students and 26 percent of teachers reported to schools on the first day and resumed their teaching activities, Education Ministry Secretary Professor Kapila Perera said.  He told the Daliy Mirror that the attendance of teachers and students reported in the schools in the Western Province was recorded at seven per cent.  

“39 percent of students and 45 percent of teachers attended the schools in the Northern and Eastern Provinces.The remaining provinces had 15% and 18% of students and teachers attending schools, respectively,” he said.  


“No issues were reported after the reopening of the schools, he added. Even though certain teachers and principals’ trade unions wanted to boycott the schools, most of them wanted to come to school and continue with their teaching activities to the students, than to conduct on-line teaching, “Prof. Perera added.
