Tiran orders to remove security for certain people and places

  • Asks for an assessment of whether certain people need protection

Minister of Public Security Tiran Alles has instructed IGP Chandana Wickramaratne to remove the police officers deployed for the protection of certain persons and places that do not require protection and immediately assign them to the police stations.  

 The minister ordered this during the Ministerial Consultative Committee meeting on Public Security Affairs recently.   


The minister also asked for an assessment of whether certain people need protection.  


The parliamentarians, who attended the meeting pointed out that there is a shortage of officers in police stations due to the massive provision of police officers to provide security to people and places that do not require security.  


Minister of State Shantha Bandara, Members of Parliament Dayasiri Jayasekara, Akila Ellawala, Madhura Withanage, Chandima Weerakkody, Mahindananda Aluthgamage, Asanka Navaratne, Thisakutty Arachchi, Rajika Wickramasinghe, Isuru Dodangoda, Kumarasiri Ratnayake, Weerasumana Weerasinghe and Sahan Pradeep Withana were present at this meeting.
